Imagining Hope

This evolving project seeks to explore the question:  How do we relate to hope ?

The question of hope often arises in therapy conversations -  What gives you hope ?  How do you hold on to hope ?  However, with such questions, there can a risk of imagining hope as static or inherent, or even a moral imperative. I began thinking about how we relate to the concept of hope, especially when it feels hard to reach.  Through many conversations, I started to learn that the relationship to hope can often feel quite complicated and dynamic - and that perhaps acknowledging this is something of value.

I began collecting accounts of people's relationship with hope, and â€‹here is a evolving collection of responses (shared with consent) to the question:  How Would You Describe Your Relationship to Hope

This page is also an invitation to contribute to this project, and to share about your relationship to hope - Email Me

The intention of this endeavour is not necessarily to instil hope, but rather to create a collective document of the tapestry of meaning that emerges with one seemingly simple concept, hope.

I would describe my relationship with hope as distant.  I think I gaze upon it, and it gazes upon me. Somehow it feels neither powerful nor dangerous.  Some force, that affects me, yet I can never have a hold on it.
